A report, “Time to Care, Time to Live – The Situation and Experiences of Family Carers/Support Persons in West Cork”, has recently been published.
West Cork Carers Support Group has been working closely with interagency partners in the development of this innovative project since 2007.
The interagency group included the HSE Community Work Department, Public Health & Community Nursing HSE, National Learning Network, RehabCare, Mental Health Services HSE, West Cork Carers Support Group and CoAction.
The terms of the research were as follows:
- To profile the needs of all Carers (of all ages) what services they are using and their unmet needs
- To identify Carers needs as associated with different age groups, care groups and dependency levels of the cared for persons
- To identify how best service providers can address Carers needs (HSE and voluntary organisations)
On behalf of the interagency group West Cork Carers Support Group would like to sincerely thank the Carers/Support Persons who participated in the research, the main researcher and peer research team who undertook the fieldwork in 2010.
Copies of the full report and executive summary are available here or if you would like to receive a copy of the executive summary please call 027-53848.
The recommendations from the report will be considered by the West Cork Carers Issues Forum a working group, which facilitates West Cork Carers Support Group, the HSE and relevant statutory agencies to work together on Carers issues.
